Dr. Andrew Sheean

Orthopeadic Surgery

Dr. Andrew Sheean is an orthopaedic surgeon at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and a Major in the United States Air Force (USAF.) He specializes in the treatment of sports medicine and traumatic soft tissue injuries of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Dr. Sheean attended medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine, he served as a USAF Flight Surgeon at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Mississippi from 2009-2012. He subsequently completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and an orthopaedic Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in 2018. During his time in Pittsburgh, Dr. Sheean gained a breadth of experience treating collegiate and professional athletes, working closely with the medical staffs of the University of Pittsburgh Football Team (NCAA), Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL), and Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL.) He maintains active memberships in a number of professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, as well as the American Orthopaedic Association’s Emerging Leaders Program. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers and textbook chapters and presented his research at numerous local and national meetings. Dr. Sheean’s research interests include the optimization of treatment techniques for ACL reconstruction and complex knee instability, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and the management of recurrent glenohumeral instability. He and his wife, Hannah, currently reside in San Antonio, Texas.
