Prof. Volker Musahl MD, PhD

Orthopedic surgery, Traumatology and Sports Medicine

After earning his medical degree at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Germany and completing a Trauma Surgery internship with Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany, Dr. Musahl moved to the United States. He completed a research fellowship in the Musculoskeletal Research Center, then completed his residency with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Musahl completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Musahl is a leader in Orthopaedic education, and is the Program Director for the UPMC Sports Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Musahl is involved on the national and international level in research and education with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery, and Arthroscopy (ESSKA). He currently is the chair of the scientific committee for the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Dr. Musahl is the Assistant Editor-in-chief for Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, and Arthroscopy (KSSTA).
